The Original Great Southern Brevet

Day 2 Evening Txt Update

A big day out for most on Day 2 of the Great Southern Brevet.

Ian Edmonds put in a blinder to blitz the field and make it to Lumsden (just shy of halfway in 2 days!).

At the back of the field it is looking a bit more challenging. Still smiling but concerned about more big days ahead. We may see some liberal geographical re-arranging of the course today and tomorrow.

Not a problem because the course was designed with this in mind. There are several "strategic" shortcuts in place to make sure everyone gets to enjoy some of what makes this part of New Zealand special. Remember you have 8 days to enjoy and the weather didn't help.

Speaking of weather, the forecast is a return to the Otago summer today. High cloud and fine with the next few days looking even brighter (good, might melt some of that snow.. more on that later).

In Oamaku with Gordon at Commercial Hotel. Not taking camping gear was a huge mistake. Has anyone mentioned the headwind?

Big day to Wanaka. Odometer clicked 210km as we came into town.  An even bigger day tomorrow. Same distance, bigger hills.  Yikes!
